Snuggles - Adult female
Snuggles was newly surrendered to our shelter by the son of a previous volunteer whose family could no longer care for her and her brother, Sly. Apparently she was not a very happy camper when a new baby arrived on the scene! Snuggles has gorgeous torti markings and striking gold eyes. She is 2 years old and is a friendly girl, and a very playful one too. She loves any toy you give her! Snuggles will be a bit shy at first, but she is one to warm up quickly. She is affectionate with her family, and loves to be pet. She arrived at the shelter with her buddy, Sly, a handsome gray tabby boy. They are very used to each other's companionship and like to sleep together and groom each other. These nice kitties would love to find their new home together... can't you find it in your heart to take two??

Prince Charles - Adult male
Prince Charles is a big orange tiger boy who is, maybe, 3 - 4 years old. He was found as a stray and brought to our shelter by our own Prince Charles (the animal control officer for Cumberland!). He had to be someone's pet at one time as he was found already declawed. This kitty was NOT at all happy with being brought to the shelter, initially. He gave us a run for our money - not wanting any of the TLC showered upon him. But soon enough this big ole boy discovered that life where it is warm and safe, and where the food comes with no strings attached, was not so bad after all. Prince Charles is now living in a room with other kitties, interacting and happy. He is a big guy and will always have a bit of the "top dog" personality, but he is outgoing and friendly and loves to play. A kitty who has been a stray for a while may not do well in a home with a big dog, but otherwise this guy is set to join your family. Please call to meet our handsome Prince!

Nicky - Adult male
Nicky is a wonderfully outgoing and personable 5 year old orange and white guy with long hair. He came to us from a Maine vet because the elderly couple that owned him were now unable to care for him. He is a rambunctious guy - very playful and talkative but also independent and affectionate. His play can be a little rough, so he would not be a good choice for a family with very young children. Nicky also does not like to have his tail brushed or get his nails clipped, so watch out! Petunia- adult female
Petunia is a very recent arrival to the shelter. She was found wandering around a neighborhood, and the people who helped to rescue think her family moved and left her behind. This kitty is a BIG gorgeous girl. Her hair is long and soft and she has very striking markings. Petunia was already spayed and is friendly so she was definitely someone's pet at one time. Smokey
- Senior male
Smokey is an older gray cat with lovely light green eyes. He has a very easy-going nature and seems quite content to snooze the day away with his best bud Sawyer. Smokey enjoys being pet and is very happy when he sees you come into the room. That said, he probably won't be following you all over the house but rather will wait till you come into the room where he is snoozing and then snuggle right up in your lap or on the chair next to yours content in knowing you are right there! Currently, Smokey lives in a room with some cats that are on the shy side so when you come to meet him you'll notice him right away. Just visit our Zoom Room and look for the gray guy who perks right up when he sees you enter … that is our wonderful little Smokey! |
Villandale- Adult female
Villandale is a new arrival to us. She has just come from foster care after raising her kittens and is now looking for a forever home of her own! Villa is a pretty short hair girl who is not very old herself..maybe a year to a year and a half. She is very very playful. Villandale has lived with other cats and dogs, and gets along well with them. her favorite toy is a string toy to chase or feather toy to bat at. She is soft and has a delightful purr when you pet her. Sometimes she will run from you at first, but when you are calm and reach slowly she comes to you and wants to be loved. We wonder if she was abused before? She is a delight and deserves a loving home now. Please call to meet this fun kitty! |
Cary- Adult male
This beautiful young boy was left on the shelter’s doorstop. In spite of this humble beginning, he is gentle and sweet. He likes to be petted and has been voraciously eating her food! Cary does not seem to mind the cats around him, but is happy to have a warm home and a bed. Cary is under a year old according to the vet, and has beautiful tiger stripes and a little white chest. Benji- Adult male
Benji was found as a stray up north. The people fell in love with him and started caring for him. But when they took him to the vet, they found that he was FIV positive. They really wanted to keep him, but couldn't because of their other animals. They loved him enough to drive hours to bring him to our shelter where he would be safe and hopefully would find a nice home. Benji was purring in his cat carrier in the lobby when they brought him. He is going to be very sweet and loving, no doubt. . His poor ears are due to ear mites, but it gives him character! Benji will be living with our AIDS kitties in a special room. He will be loved and cared by our volunteers, but he would really love to find a comfy couch to curl up on in a sunny place..please call to meet this nice boy and find out what caring for an FIV positive kitty means! |
Sid - Adult male
Sid is a wonderful orange and white guy who is about 5 years old. He is very handsome and has huge double paws! Sid is a real sweetie...gets along with the other kitties in his room...who are all AIDS positive. This guy came to us from another shelter where he would have been euthanized because they are not equipped with a place where these kitties can live without exposing other cats to their disease. Sid has four roommates and is just as playful and active and happy as can be. We would love for him to find a real home to live in with another one of his friends from HART..or by himself. AIDS is very contagious to other kitties, but not to people. Please call to meet one of our special residents! |

Zoro - Young male
Zoro is another nice young boy rescued from a barn in Lisbon. He is about 6 months old and is a friend to Scout. Zoro has adjusted quickly to life on the inside..playing and letting people handle him. He has a nice loud purr and is a very curious boy. Zoro likes to have his head scratched, and is anxious to meet some other kitties he lives next to in the room. He is reaching out to other crates to say hi. Angel - Young adult female
Angel is a young black kitty who was brought to the shelter last spring with her litter of kittens. She was a great momma, nurturing her babies until they were old enough to be adopted. Angel is a very timid girl who is not very comfortable around humans. She loves and has bonded with some of the other kitties she lives with, but is mostly scared. She would do well in a home with another young cat and lots of TLC and patience. Please open your heart to this special kitty. |
Winter- Young male
Winter is a short black boy that came into the shelter at the end of May. He has shiny black hair and black nose. He is over a year according the file-- He was a stray in Cumberland on someone's deck for several days. He's a little shy still and seems sad. Seems like he's laid back and quiet, very sweet. Winter is beginning to settle in and gets along with the other kitties now. He just needed a bit of time to adjust..and will really blossom with more TLC. Please come to meet this nice young kitty!

Olivia - Adult female
Olivia is a pretty torti girl with a white chest. She is sister to Sebastian, and is also 4 1/2 years old. She is described as being quiet, shy to family and visitors. She will take a while to warm up to new people. She avoids children and loud dogs. Olivia probably needs a stress-free, quiet environment. Mittens - Adult female
Mittens is a beautiful older gray and white kitty surrendered to us after her owner got a doggie, and she could not tolerate it. She is gentle and sweet, and just a little shy around new people. Mittens has been declawed, so is a very gentle lady! She is used to a busy family life with older kids. Her favorite pastime is lounging in the sun or next to you on the couch. She also enjoys sprawling out on your desk while you are trying to get some work done. Mittens has a pretty sleek gray coat and white paws, nose and chest. Mittens is most definitely a lap cat who loves your undivided attention..she will reward you with a nice loud purr. Please come to meet this lovely lady.

Woodsie - Young adult female
Woodsie is a classic tabby girl who is about 2 1/2 years old. She is rather timid right now but this girl has a lot of love to give. She needs a gentle and caring hand to help bring her out of her shell. Woodsie is quiet and gentle herself, and deserves a loving home. Won't you please consider this nice kitty? |
Annabel - Adult female
Annabel is a classic orange tiger with white around her mouth and long white whiskers. She is extremely soft. She was a stray from New Gloucester that was abandoned by her owner, along with another cat. They both were brought to us by a neighbor. Annabel is very friendly and curious. She has a ton of personality and is not shy in the least. She is a bit of a talker as well. Please consider opening your heart and home to this deserving kitty!

Flirt- Adult female
Flirt is a very striking young mother kitty who is now ready for her forever home. She has the most unique markings and a wonderful personality. She is in foster care with other kitties and gets along easily with them. Flirt has soft fine short hair, and a very svelte physique. We think there may be some Oriental or Siamese in her background from her exotic good looks. Flirt is sweet and outgoing, and would just a wonderful addition to your family. Sunny is a nice big orange tabby guy who was brought in as as tray. This guy is your typical laid back orange fellow who is as mellow as the day is long. Sunny has beautiful swirls and markings in his coat. He is a playful boy who the vet estimates to be fairly young. Please call to meet this nice teddy bear of a kitty! |
Mimi- Adult female
Mimi is a 6 year old female kitty who was brought in by her owner. She has been declawed and is a very quiet gentle girl. She is over weight at present, and really needs someone to love her by helping her to reduce a bit so that she can be more active. Mimi loves to be with you..in your lap or next to you on the couch. This girl craves a little loving...please come by to give her some! |
Calamity Jane - Adult female
Calamity Jane is a short hair black & white girl with an adorable white patch next to her nose and great long white whiskers. Her owner moved into a nursing home after being in the same home for her 7 years, and she is a little scared of her new surroundings. She is very active and friendly to family, although a little shy with visitors. She has not been around children and would do best in a very quiet home. She loves catnip. Star- Young female
Star is a very cute black and white kitty who was also rescued from a barn earlier this year. She and her litter mate Mercury are nearly mirror images of each other. Star has a little white round spot on the left side of her face that is larger than the one on her right side...and her brother's is just the opposite way. Star was quite timid when she first arrived at HART, but has slowly made progress toward trusting humans. She has a very soft silky coat, and is less than a year old. Please call to meet this kitty..and plan on the big reward you will get after some extra TLC you put in once she gets home home!

Houdini - Adult male
Houdini is a middle aged kitty who was surrendered to us by his owner a couple of years ago, and just has not learned to adapt very well to shelter life. He hides and is very timid, although he was not this way for his owner. We would love for Houdini to find another very understanding human who will give him lots of TLC and patience to bring him back out to the cat we know he is. He has handsome good orange tabby markings with a white bib and nose, and cute little white paws. This sweet kitty will come over to you in the room when you go in, reach up for a head butt or pat, and then scurry away. He loves the other kitties, so perhaps his new home could have one or two others. Houdini will flourish with just the right touch in a quieter environment. Kashi- Young female
Kashi came to the shelter with her three 5 month old kittens after being found living outside in a shed. Kashi is slightly worried about her new living conditions, but is sweet and gentle. She has an adorable young face, and we estimate her to be a year and a half or so. Kashi's kittens are Abay, Temple, and Suki. They are also looking for their forever homes and are a bit more timid around people than their momma, but are making progress very day. Please come to meet this special little group and claim one or two for your own! |
Mellen- Young female
Mellen is a wonderfully sweet orange and white young lady who is available for adoption. She is friendly and outgoing and somewhat of a talker. Mellen loves to be stroked and have her chin scratched. This girl was a stray and brought to us, but was certainly someone's pet at some point as she is just as loving as can be. please call to meet this pretty kitty with an absolutely winning personality! |
Tessa - Adult female
Tessa is a short-haired orange and white kitty who is finally relaxing at the shelter. She is about 7 years old and is quiet and affectionate. Tessa came in with Cocoa due to their owner's illness, but they do not have to stay together. Tessa is shy with people and needs a quiet home without children. She has a very sweet personality and is a favorite at the shelter. Please call to meet her and see for yourself. |
Sparkles- Adult female
Sparkles is a pretty short hair tabby girl that is about a year and a half old. She was surrendered because the family she was with had young children who were aggressive towards her. She came into the shelter with the family’s other cat, Percy. The two get along great! Imagine how gentle she must be in that she never hissed or was aggressive with the children. She is a gentle girl and if possible would like to be adopted with her friend, Percy. |
Pookie - Adult female
Pookie is an adorable long hair lady with a very cute little mark on her nose and classic tuxedo looks. She is gentle and quiet and would do best in a home without young children or dogs. She dislikes commotion and enjoys spending her days snoozing in the sun or snuggling on the couch with you. Pookie is very soft and loves to be groomed. Cleo- Young female
Cleo is a very nice tiger girl who was brought in by her owner who could no longer care for her. She has the prettiest big green eyes and cute little orange nose! Cleo is young, about 18 months or so, and is described by her owner to be a lap cat. She is friendly and outgoing, but is not crazy about other cats. Cleo loves to talk and meet new people...she is not at all bashful. Please call to meet this pretty young tiger girl!

Shy Kitty - Senior male
Come meet our sweet, older Shy Kitty. He is one of the original founding fathers at the shelter, and came from New York where he was living on the streets. He was rescued by the person who first started HART, and has been with us for over 10 years. Shy Kitty is so named because he is. He always comes to greet you when you first come in the room where he lives, but still acts afraid and non-trusting. This handsome big boy is not hissy and would never attack, he is as meek as they come. This nice kitty would just love to find a comfy couch to snooze on, especially if it is in a sunny place! Shy Kitty enjoys your pets, and is very gentle. He just needs a patient human to show him some kindness. |
Crockett- Young male
Crockett is a new intake to our shelter...a handsome young buff boy who was a stray. This guy is sweet and lovable.....with a TON of personality. He is young..maybe a year old or so..and is very outgoing! Crockett is new to the shelter life of living with other kitties...and is not too sure about it yet. Sweetness was surrendered with another kitty who has since found a loving home, and now it is her turn! Sweetness is a big gray female kitty with some buff coloring. She enjoys mingling with the other cats in her room, and is very gentle. She prefers rubbing up against you and settling in beside you, rather than being held on your lap. Fanny- Adult female
Fanny came to our shelter as a stray not too long ago. She is quite skinny and under nourished, and seems very happy to be inside where it is safe and warm for her! Fanny has beautiful big yellow eyes, and gorgeous long hair. We can't wait to see how lovely she will become once she is filled out and has good food for a healthy coat. Fanny is sweet and gentle and just a nice girl. As she is brand new we do not know yet about her interactions with other kitties. Fancy is a gorgeous dilute calico girl with short hair. She is waiting for just the right person to come along who is patient and loving. Fancy is about 10 months old now and is still waiting for her home. She is gentle and sweet, and has become so acclimated that her foster mom describes her as a purr machine. She has made great progress in her foster home, and will do best with a family who understands she needs some time to adjust and get used to a new situation in a quiet environment. Haley - Adult female
Haley is a 6 year old kitty who was discovered living in a barn a year ago, and brought to our shelter. She has come a very long way, and actually bonded with one of our other kitties, Birdie, in the room where she lives. She is very cute with her torti good looks and a stripe of white on her nose! Haley would love to finds a nice quiet home where she can blossom into the loving cat she shows promise of. Of course it would be ideal for her friend, Birdie, to go along, but not imperative. Keeley- Young female
Keeley is a short hair black and white "cow" kitty with pretty green eyes. She was left at The Kennel Shop in Sanford after the landlord told the owners that the cats had to go that day. She is very talkative, friendly, and loves to roll around and show off. She's 1 - 1 1/2 years old and is small. Very cute This kitty would love to find a home with her sister, Nellie, if possible...although they can be adopted out by themselves. Please call to meet this pretty girl with the big green eyes! |
Shasta- Young female
Shasta is a short hair female orange tiger with beautiful, warm gold eyes. She came in with Shiloh and is a little less than 1 year old. Shasta and Shiloh were strays from a litter of kittens in Gray. A nice woman called in to see if she could get help with the litter. Shasta is a little shy on her 2nd day, but is very friendly...just a little unsure. She has very soft hair with striking dark orange stripes. She is all set to go, so please call to meet this pretty girl! |
Riley- Adult female
Everyone is just crazy about Riley! Look how pretty this young girl is! She is a calico Manx mix---look at her beautiful coloring! Her eyes are a pretty gold against her white, tan and gray fur. She is waiting for you to come and take her home, how could you resist a face like this?

Ankara- Adult female
Ankara is a fabulous new arrival to HART. She is six year old declawed lady who is sweet and gentle and just a love. She was surrendered by her owners and is described as being affectionate and loyal. Ankara is adjusting to life at eh shelter with other kitties, but wouldn't mind goring home with someone who did not have another kitty. She would LOVE being doted upon as a the true princess that she is! Ankara would also prefer a quiet home without young children. Please call soon to meet this lovely lady.

Cruz- Young male
Cruz is a sweet young boy with a handsome tuxedo look to him. He is about 7 months old now and still just a little timid. He has come a long way with his social skills due to his loving foster mom, and surrogate sister, Emily to help him along. He would make a wonderful companion for another pet. Cruz was found in a Manx colony, but does have a tail. He is very affectionate with other cats and young kittens. Cruz has accepted new arrivals to his foster home quickly and is very playful. He has overcome most of his shyness. He will follow you and come up to rub against you when cleaning his litter and choosing his food. He will let you pick him up much more often; and will purr while holding him. Cruz is gaining ground each week on his social skills. His foster mom says she is looking for him to learn to be into her lap very soon. He would still would need TLC from his adoptive family until he feels completely comfortable. Please call if you have the right home to provide him all the love and time we think it will take to make this guy trust again! |
